Each September, volunteers around the WORLD work together to clean beaches, rivers and other waterways. Volunteers document every piece of trash they find on standardized trash tally data cards, which will be provided to you. This information is used by the Ocean Conservancy to produce the world’s only state-by-state, country-by-country Marine Debris Index. By understanding sources of marine debris, we can work together to solve this problem. In Volusia County last year, 7,700 lbs of trash (including over 41,000 cigarette butts) was removed from the beach!

Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing, close-toed shoes and hats. Please bring sunscreen, water or drinks, and work gloves. To reduce the amount of waste being generated by the event, volunteers may also want to bring buckets for trash collection and use work gloves instead of plastic gloves.
